
Tar Heels Drop Road Dual to No. 10 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The No. 12 North Carolina wrestling team moved to 2-1 on the season Sunday, losing on the road to No. 10 Ohio State, 23-12.
The match started at 165, with Sonny Santiago taking on the Buckeyes No. 10 Carson Kharchla. Santiago would battle but could not overcome the pressure from Kharchla as he fell 10-2 by major decision. At 174 No. 22 Gavin Kane dropped his bout to No. 6 Ethan Smith, 16-10.
Clay Lautt ranked 17th at 184 pounds fell 4-1 to No. 17 Rocky Jordan. In the 197 bout, Mark Chaid could not hold off Gavin Hoffman as he dropped the 14-3 major decision. Heavyweight No. 33 Brandon Whitman wrestled in a hard-fought 2-0 loss to seventh-ranked Tate Orndorff.
Spencer Moore faced No. 15 Malik Heinselman and dropped the 6-2 decision in a hard-fought 125 bout. At 133 No. 13 Jaime Hernandez took the 5-3 decision over Dylan Kootz to earn the Tar Heel's first points of the day. The 141 bout was intense throughout as No. 14 Kizhan Clarke had to pick up the win by a 3-1 sudden victory. At 157 No. 2 Austin O'Connor earned the pin at the 3:44 mark to end the day.
The Tar Heels return to action on Nov. 17 when they travel to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The match is set for 9 p.m. ET.
