UNC Set For Big Ten/ACC Battle at Minnesota
December 1, 2021 | Women's Basketball
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Playing its fourth straight game away from home, the North Carolina women's basketball team takes on Minnesota Wednesday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Tar Heels (6-0) and Golden Gophers (6-3) tip off at 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. here in the Central time zone, at UM's Williams Arena.
The game will air live on the Big Ten Network. Listen to the radio broadcast here and follow live stats and @uncwbb on Twitter.
UNC traveled to Minnesota on Tuesday evening coming off a championship at the Goombay Splash last weekend in Bimini, Bahamas, with wins over VCU (72-59) and Washington (58-37). Prior to that, the Tar Heels played on Nov. 21 at TCU, winning 79-46. The most recent game in Chapel Hill was back on Nov. 17, a win over Appalachian State.
The Rivalry
UNC and Minnesota are meeting for the sixth time in a series that dates back to the 1979-80 season. Carolina leads the series 4-1, including a win in the last meeting, during the 2017 ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Playing in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels won 88-83 on Nov. 29, 2017. One current player, fifth-year senior Jaelynn Murray, was on the team then. She started and played 20 minutes, with four points and two rebounds.
The teams are meeting in Minneapolis for the first time after four games in Chapel Hill and one, in 2016, in Bimini, Bahamas (which, coincidentally, is where UNC played its most recent two games).
Up Next
After playing four games away from home, the Tar Heels return to play three in a row at Carmichael Arena, hosting James Madison on Sunday, UNC Asheville the following Sunday (Dec. 12) and Jacksonville on Dec. 15 before opening Atlantic Coast Conference play at Boston College on Dec. 19.
