Chapel Hill, NC --Â The Navy squad used a big five-run third inning to roll to a 9-5 win over Blue in a 6 1/2 inning scrimmage on Friday afternoon in an icebox otherwise known as Boshamer Stadium.
Navy got on the board first on a Caleb Roberts home run to right in the first inning. Roberts then drove in another run with a double in the third. Angel Zarate followed with a two-run single before a Tomas Frick double to left drove in two more runs to put Navy up 6-0.
Blue responded with three runs in the bottom of the third. Will Schroeder led off the inning with a home run to dead center field. Jack Riedel's two-run single up the middle made it 6-3 Navy after three innings.
Navy picked up its next run in the fifth on another Caleb Roberts RBI-double before Clemente Inclan scored on a wild pitch for an 8-3 lead. Danny Serretti's run-scoring infield single in the sixth gave Navy its ninth and final run. Blue scored its last two runs on Johnny Castagnozzi's single to right for the final 9-5 score.
Austin Love and Max Carlson were the two starters. Connor Ollio, Davis Palermo, Shawn Rapp and Nick James threw in relief.
Due to incoming inclement weather, the rest of the weekend's scrimmage schedule is uncertain at this point.
