Tar Heels Complete Comeback, Win Series vs. Syracuse

CHAPEL HILL – Although Syracuse jumped on the board first, North Carolina came from behind for the 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the weekend at Anderson Stadium.
The Orange posted two runs in the second, but lights-out pitching that featured 10 strikeouts by Brittany Pickett and timely hits in the fourth and fifth innings propelled UNC to the 2-1 series win. Skyler Brooks logged a pair of hits while Kiersten Licea tallied two RBI that tied up the game in the fourth. Lexi Godwin plated the go-ahead run while Kristina Burkhardt drove in the insurance run.
Carolina improves to 4-1 on the season/ACC while Syracuse is even at 2-2 (overall/ACC).
Up next, the Tar Heels travel to the Crimson Classic and face Troy, Memphis and host, Alabama Friday through Sunday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

» In the fourth, Licea sailed a two-run double to the left-center warning track to knot the game a 2-2. However, Godwin pinch-hit a sac-fly to right for the one-run lead.
» Destiny Middleton and Brooks each singled in the fifth. With runners on the corners, Burkhardt sent a sac-fly to left to finalize the score at 4-2.
» Totaling 10 strikeouts on the day, Pickett struck out the side in the first and fifth innings.
