Tar Heels Move Into Top Spot In USILA Poll
February 22, 2021 | Men's Lacrosse
For the first time since 2017, North Carolina is No. 1 in the USILA Division I Men's Lacrosse Coaches Poll. The Tar Heels (4-0) received 436 total points in this week's voting, just ahead of Duke (434), which had held the top spot.
The Tar Heels were last ranked No. 1 in the USILA poll in the 2017 preseason, after winning the 2016 NCAA crown. The last time UNC was No. 1 during the season was the final three polls of the 2013 season.
Both UNC and Duke are 4-0 overall and lead all ranked schools in number of wins this spring. The Atlantic Coast Conference holds the top three spots in the poll, with Virginia following UNC and Duke and all five league schools in the top 10.
UNC is coming off a pair of victories over ranked teams last week. The Tar Heels beat No. 15 High Point 17-15 at home on Tuesday then traveled to Richmond and beat the No. 16 Spiders 14-9 on Sunday.
Next up for UNC is another meeting with High Point, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
