Blue Wins Saturday's Scripted Scrimmage
February 6, 2021 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, NC --Â The Blue squad defeated the Navy squad 4-3 in an eight and a half inning scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. The scrimmage was mostly traditional but at times was scripted so the result was quite artificial.Â
Blue took a 4-0 lead in the second on an amazing indidual performance by Tomas Frick. With men at the corners, Frick laid down a great bunt that he beat out for a base hit that drove in a run. He was sent back to back and immediately launched a homer to right center that scored three runs. So in one "plate appearance" he had a bunt single and a home run with four total RBI!
Navy remained scoreless until the top of the ninth, which was a scripted inning as Coach Forbes decided to start the inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Eric Grintz then scored on a wild pitch for Navy's first run. Tyler Causey and Will Stewart both had one-run singles that plated two more runs that made the final score 4-3.
Max Carlson and Max Alba were the two starters, with Gage Gillian, Shawn Rapp, Nick James, Davis Palermo and Nik Pry throwing in relief. Carlson had a splendid performance, throwing five scoreless innings while giving up just one base hit.
Carolina will next scrimmage on Sunday afternoon.
