Top Storylines
• North Carolina enters the weekend looking to rebound after a series loss against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and an 8-7 defeat versus Liberty on Tuesday at home.
• Carolina's bullpen allowed one earned run over the first 22 2/3 innings of the season. Since, in its last 22 1/3 innings, the Tar Heel bullpen has surrendered 19.
• Tar Heel's pitchers have been able to locate the zone so far in 2021 and currently rank third in the ACC and 57th in the NCAA in walks allowed per nine innings (3.53).
• Every game Carolina has competed in this season has been decided by the end of the sixth inning. The Tar Heels are 7-0 when leading after six and are 0-4 when trailing. UNC has not scored a run in the ninth inning this season.Â
• In its last four games, UNC has collected 38 combined hits, the most hits in a four-game span this season.
• In addition to his 31-game on-base streak, Angel Zarate is riding a 10-game hitting streak and has reached base multiple times in 11 out of his last 12 starts.
• Redshirt sophomore Austin Love was named ACC Pitcher of the Week after his season debut against James Madison on Feb. 19. He currently ranks second in the ACC in hits allowed per nine innings (4.67).
• Transfer Justice Thompson has been remarkable for UNC thus far. In addition to starting every game in center field, he ranks fourth in the ACC in hits (17).
• Scott Forbes took the reigns from Mike Fox on Aug. 7, 2020, who wrapped up a legendary 22-year career at Carolina. He becomes just the fifth head coach of the Tar Heel baseball program since 1931.
• Angel Zarate has reached base in 31-straight games, dating back to UNC's 16-1 win over Liberty in the 2019 Chapel Hill regional.
• Justice Thompson, Caleb Roberts, Tyler Causey, Zarate and Brett Centracchio each have hit home runs over 400 feet this season. Causey's 442-foot HR vs. JMU is the furthest of 2021.Â
Scouting the Tigers
• Clemson enters the weekend 5-5 and have dropped three out of its last four contests.
• The Tigers lost two out of three against Notre Dame, who Clemson hosted to start ACC play last weekend.
• Clemson began the 2021 season with a series sweep of Cincinnati.
• James Parker leads the Tigers with a .390 average at the plate. Jonathan French has recorded a team-high 9 RBI, while RHP Davis Sharpe has 21 SO.
