Freshman goalkeeper Collin Krieg's performance in the UNC men's lacrosse team's win at Virginia on Thursday has earned him national and Atlantic Coast Conference honors.

Krieg made a career-high 20 saves as the top-ranked Tar Heels beat Virginia 16-13 in Charlottesville, Va., to open ACC play. In recognition, he has been named the US Lacrosse Division I Men's Player of the Week as well as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Krieg, from Stony Brook, N.Y., has started all seven games this season for the Tar Heels (7-0, 1-0 ACC). He has a goals-against average of 10.36 (66 goals allowed, 70 saves) and a .515 saves percentage.

His total of 20 saves against the Cavaliers nearly doubled his previous career high of 11.
