April 1, 2021 | Women's Soccer
VILLANOVA, PA. – The Tar Heels defense was on full display against Villanova (2-9-2) on Thursday afternoon as No. 2 North Carolina won 1-0 behind a second-half goal from Brianna Pinto.
Carolina allowed just one shot against the Wildcats. In the 2021 spring slate, North Carolina has outshot opponents 63-13 after allowing three shots against Delaware and nine versus Tennessee.
This season, UNC holds a 247-89 shot advantage.
After much back-and-forth action in the first half, Brianna Pinto gave the Tar Heels a 1-0 advantage in the 47th minute. It was her team-high 11th goal of the season and also gave Isabel Cox her third assist.
In the first half, the Tar Heel's offense kept the Villanova goalkeeper busy with a trio of shots on goal. Carolina's defense was stellar and did not allow a shot in the first 45 minutes.
It wasn't until the 59th minute until the Tar Heel's defense surrendered its first shot. It turned out to be the Wildcat's only shot of the game.
UNC recorded 10 second-half shots and finished with 16, which was led by Rachel Jones with four.
The Tar Heels are scheduled to return to the pitch next week against Columbus State.
