Tar Heels Set To Welcome Grad Transfer Littlefield

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carlie Littlefield, a guard from Waukee, Iowa, will join the UNC women's basketball team this summer following four years at Princeton. She is a two-time All-Ivy League selection and will graduate from Princeton in May with a degree in economics.
While playing for the Tar Heels, she plans to pursue her MBA at Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Littlefield will arrive in Chapel Hill already very familiar with half the coaching staff, as she played for two years under head coach Courtney Banghart and assistant coach Carrie Moore before both came to UNC in the spring of 2019.
"What was most important for me in choosing where to continue my career was somewhere I could challenge myself academically, continue to develop and have success as a player, and feel comfortable with the coaching staff and team," Littlefield said. "For me, Carolina was the place that did the best job in checking those boxes. First off, I greatly value the opportunity to pursue my MBA at a top business school like Kenan-Flagler. Next, by playing for Coach Banghart and Coach Moore for my first two years at Princeton, I feel confident in my relationship with them and the trust we have established, and am thrilled for the opportunity to play for them again.
"Lastly, in talking with the team and watching them play this past season, I'm eager to compete alongside each of them and build on the success they had this past season. I'm looking forward to being a part of the Carolina Family and I can't wait to get to work."
As a junior in 2019-20, Littlefield was first team All-Ivy League after leading the Tigers in assists and averaging 13.7 points per game, second on the team. She ranked in the Ivy League Top 10 in points, field goal percentage, assists, free throw percentage, steals, three-point field goal percentage and assist-turnover ratio. She also earned first-team all-conference honors as a sophomore.
At Waukee High School, she graduated as the program's career leader in points (1,393), assists (380) and steals (296) as well as the single-season record holder for assists and steals. Team captain as a senior, she was named Class 5A Player of the Year and led her team to at least the state quarterfinals each year, winning a championship in 2015. She also lettered in track and soccer.
"We are thrilled to have Carlie join our Tar Heel program this upcoming season," Banghart said. "She's a winner in all ways and will bring toughness and experience to our talented roster. Words don't capture the true breadth and depth of Carlie's impact, but she is a relentless competitor, an elite two-way player, and one of the best teammates I've ever coached. She will do whatever it takes to win and is hungry to get here and to get to work with her new teammates. We can't wait to have her here."
