May 10, 2021 | Men's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina has been awarded the top overall seed in the 2021 NCAA men's lacrosse bracket and will open play Saturday at home with a first-round game against Monmouth. The Tar Heels (11-2) are in the tournament field for the 33rd time overall and the first since 2017.
One of four host sites for first-round games, UNC's Dorrance Field also will be the site of a Sunday first-round game between Duke and High Point. That matchup is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The Tar Heels are 33-27 all-time in tournament play and have won five NCAA Championships, in 1981, 1982, 1986, 1991 and 2016.
The Atlantic Coast Conference does not have an NCAA Tournament automatic bid and all five ACC teams received at-large berths.
UNC also earned the top seed in the women's bracket. The Tar Heel women will host a neutral-site game between Johns Hopkins and James Madison on Friday at Dorrance field then face the winner in a second-round game on Sunday at noon.
