Carolina's 2V4 Advances to Grand Final
May 14, 2021 | Women's Rowing
Day One in the Books at ACC Rowing
Coxswain Lara King led Carolina Rowing's Second Varsity Four to a berth in Saturday's Grand Final to highlight day one for the Tar Heels at the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
Â
King guided the crew of Taylor Gregitis, Amelia Locklear, Sydney Tumey, Nicole Van Liew to finish third in their heat behind Syracuse and Duke. UNC beat Louisville in the heat with a time of 7:42.56 to secure one of six spots in Saturday's Grand Final.
Â
"We had a beautiful morning for racing in a championship event that we have been looking forward to for a long time," says interim co-head coach Thomas Revelle. "Unfortunately, only one of our boats had the results we were aiming for. I am excited for the 2V4+ making the A Final and think they have potential for a great race tomorrow. Our other boats will try to refocus tonight and attempt to end the season with a good race in the B Finals. The ACC has some really fast programs, so having the chance to compete against these teams will help us see what we want to become as a program."
Â
Carolina's day one results include:
1V8: 5th in heat one (6:59.17) Coxswain: Ashley Lim, Ranait Fitzgerald, Katie McMahon, Alessandra De Vito, Natalie Timinskas, Lauren Ferner, Amanda Perez, Alexis Levister, Hannah Fisher
Â
2V8: 5th in heat one (7:27.55) Coxswain: Lauren Walsh, Zoe Rose, Caroline Lammersen, Sarah Cate Niles, Olivia Curran, Lindsay Miller, Sarah Velarde, Neeva Wernsman Young, Chloe Hyde
Â
3V8: 4th in heat two (7:32.40) Coxswain: Julia Hunt, Claire Melgard, Marion Miller, Jules Micchia, Lily Brown, Julia Downes, Hannah Davis, Tianna Van Cura, Becca Lewis
Â
1V4: 4th in heat two (7:52.60) Coxswain: Isabelle McGimsey, Gigi Maroney, Kate Burgess, Jackie Wilhelm, Jessica Judge
Â
2V4: 3rd in heat two (7:42.56)
Â
"Our 2V4 led the way this morning, earning a chance to compete in the Grand Final tomorrow," says interim co-head coach Emilie Gross. "They have what it takes to really bring it to most of these ACC teams, so I'm excited to watch them execute. The rest of our boats need to grow from this morning's experience and use that to reach their potential in their races tomorrow."
Â
Saturday's racing begins at 8:05 a.m.
