Shippee Places Third at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Tar Heel junior Jill Shippee (Clifton Park, N.Y.) placed third in women's hammer throw at the 2021 NCAA Track and Field Championships Thursday to earn first-team All-America honors.
Shippee threw the hammer a lifetime-best 227'9" (69.42m), breaking her own Atlantic Coast Conference record. Shippee previously had placed 14th during the 2018 NCAA Championships.
This marks the first time Carolina has had a women's track and field student-athlete medal in the hammer throw at NCAA Championships. The previous best finish for a Tar Heel was a seventh-place throw by Laura Gerraughty in 2003.
