Baseball Falls 12-2 Against UCLA In Final Game Of 2021

LUBBOCK, Texas – North Carolina (28-27) fell in the Lubbock Regional elimination game 12-2 against UCLA (37-19) on Sunday afternoon to conclude its 2021 slate.
UCLA took a five-run lead in the opening frame with four RBI singles, all with one out. Nik Pry came out of the bullpen for the Tar Heels after Connor Ollio started the game on the mound and recorded the final two outs.
Davis Palermo took over on the mound for the Tar Heels in the second inning and threw 2.0 innings, which yielded three this, three runs, one walk and three strikeouts.
The Bruins hit a solo home run in the third frame to take a 6-0 lead and manufactured four runs in the fourth inning to claim a 10-0 lead.
The Tar Heels scored its first run of the contest in the fourth inning when Will Stewart singled up the middle to plate Caleb Roberts, who reached on his second hit of the game earlier in the inning. Tomas Frick followed with an RBI single through the left side to cut the lead to eight.
Caleb Cozart put together an impressive performance out of the bullpen for the Tar Heels and threw 2.2 scoreless innings. He added two strikeouts and no walks.
The Bruins tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh after a 2RBI double to push its lead to 12-2.
Both sides turned in a pair of scoreless innings to end the contest and UNC fell by the 10-run deficit.
With the win to open the regional against UCLA, UNC has claimed a victory in 26-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, which dates back to 1982.
