September 30, 2021 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, NC -- Â The North Carolina Tar Heels began their fourth week of Fall scrimmages on Thursday afternoon as the Navy squad took a 6-3 win over Blue in a six-inning scrimmage at Boshamer Stadium.
Navy got on the board in the top of the first as Alberto Osuna's single to short plated a run for a 1-0 lead. Navy picked up two more runs in the fourth on solo home runs by Johnny Castagnozzi and Alberto Osuna. Blue cut the lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Casey Cook's RBI-double to right drove in a run, then Cook would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Blue tied the score in the fifth inning when Reece Holbrook drove in a run with a single. Navy put the scrimmage away with three runs in the top of the sixth and final inning. Mac Horvath belted a solo homer to left, then two runs scored on a bizarre play caused by a throwing error.
Six pitchers saw action. Shawn Rapp, Caleb Cozart, Carson Starnes, Kyle Mott, Davis Palermo and Alden Segui all threw.
Navy outhit Blue by a 7-6 margin. The throwing error in the sixth was the only error of the scrimmage.
The Tar Heels will scrimmage again on Friday.
NOTE: The new version of Trackman is now installed and working but a vendor issue prevented a box score from being generated. The issue is being worked on.
