Men’s Soccer Falls To High Point In NCAA First Round
November 17, 2022 | Men's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team concluded its season Thursday afternoon at Dorrance Field after a 2-0 loss to High Point in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament.
The Tar Heels end the 2022 campaign with a record of 8-6-5 (2-2-4 ACC) while the Panthers improve to 11-4-5 (5-0-3 Big South). High Point now travels to California to play at No. 5 Stanford in the second round on Nov. 20.
Milo Garvanian had the first good look of the match just five minutes in with a shot that was ultimately stopped by Panther keeper Holden Trent. Another chance for UNC came 12 minutes later from Daniel Kutsch at close range, but Trent was again there for the stop.
High Point's first goal came in the 52nd minute off a free kick by Jefferson Amaya from just outside the box. The Panthers then doubled their lead after a goal from Noah Holmes five minutes later for a 2-0 lead the Tar Heels could not erase.
Carolina out-shot High Point 11-5 throughout the contest and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. Eight different Tar Heel players recorded a shot with Garvanian, Kutsch and Til Zinnhardt notching two apiece.
