BELL TOWER WALK
Tar Heel fans of all ages are encouraged to welcome the team to the stadium on game day. While construction is ongoing during the 2022 season at the Kenan Football Center, the Carolina team buses will arrive between the Genome Sciences Building and the Sonja Haynes Stone Black Cultural Center two-and-a-half hours before kickoff. The team will march through the amphitheater to the front of the Kenan Football Center before entering the building.
SOUTH'S OLDEST RIVALRY
• UNC and Virginia will face off in the 127th edition of the South's Oldest Rivalry.Â
• Only Minnesota and Wisconsin's annual battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe has been played more often (131 times) among FBS rivalries.
• UNC is 26-26-0 all-time on the road against Virginia. The Cavaliers have won the last two meetings at Scott Stadium in 2018, 22-19, and in 2020, 44-41.Â
• The Tar Heels snapped a four-game losing streak in the series in 2021 with a 59-39 win in Chapel Hill. The 98 combined points scored was the most ever in the series, topping the 85 scored in 2020.
• Carolina gained 699 total offense yards, its most ever against Virginia and sixth highest total in program history. UVA quarterback Brennan Armstrong threw for 554 yards, a Virginia single-game record and the most ever against the Tar Heels.
• The teams combined for 1,273 yards.
• Josh Downs had a career-high 203 receiving yards.
• Carolina's last win in Charlottesville was back in 2016. Mitch Trubisky threw three touchdown passes and No. 22 North Carolina came away with a 35-14 victory.
LAST TIME OUT
• Drake Maye threw for five touchdowns and Antoine Green had a career night with 180 yards receiving as UNC overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half to defeat Pittsburgh 42-24 last Saturday. Green, a fifth-year senior, hauled in a pair of touchdowns and set career highs in yards receiving and receptions (10).
• UNC is 4-0 in league play for the first time since going 8-0 in 2015.Â
• Virginia lost 14-12 at home to Miami in four overtimes. The Cavaliers took a 6-3 lead with 12:11 left in the game, but Miami tied it on the final play of regulation on a 17-yard field goal to force overtime.
