CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC women's basketball team plays its final nonconference home game on Friday evening, hosting USC Upstate at Carmichael Arena at 6 p.m.
The Tar Heels are currently 8-1 and ranked seventh nationally. The Spartans are 3-6 and come to Chapel Hill after back-to-back wins.

Carolina and USC Upstate are facing off for just the third time ever, with the most recent meeting coming in the 2015-16 season. UNC won that game 80-40 in Chapel Hill on Dec. 16, 2015. Then-freshman Stephanie Watts led four Tar Heels in double figures with 21 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Three Tar Heels – juniors Deja Kelly, Kennedy Todd-Williams and Alyssa Ustby – average 14.9 points per game to lead the team and rank among the Atlantic Coast Conference's top 10 scorers.
Isabella Geraci currently leads the Spartans in scoring with 10.1 points per game. She's also the team's top rebounder, averaging 7.2 boards per game. She's the only USC Upstate player currently averaging in double figures, but three others scoring 6.8 ppg or more.
Coming up
Next up for UNC is a trip to Charlotte to face No. 19 Michigan on Tuesday in the inaugural Jumpman Invitational. It will be UNC's fourth game of the nonconference season against a ranked team. It will be just the second meeting ever between the Tar Heels and Wolverines, with the first in 1987.
Noting the Tar Heels
• In a nod to Carolina's versatility, four different players have scored 20 or more points in the season's first nine games. (Todd-Williams with 20 vs. Jackson State, at Indiana, and vs. Wofford, Adams with 23 vs South Carolina State, Kelly with 24 vs James Madison and 29 vs Iowa State, and Hodgson with 21 vs. Oregon and 20 vs Wofford.) A fifth, Alyssa Ustby, has reached 19 on two occasions.
• Eva Hodgson has hit at least one three in every game this season.
• UNC got a season-high 27 points off the bench against Wofford.
• UNC had been outrebounded five games in a row before beating Wofford 57-21 on the boards. Carolina's offensive rebounds total (a season-best 22) outpaced Wofford's overall rebounding total (21).
• UNC's 10 blocks against Iowa State were the most for a Tar Heel team since the 2017-18 season. Redshirt freshman Teonni Key had three in just 14 minutes of play. Carolina is averaging 5.38 per game, tied for second in the ACC and 15th nationally.
• Two Tar Heels rank among the ACC's top three in assist-turnover ratio. Deja Kelly is second in the ACC and ranks fifth nationally at 3.89. Eva Hodgson is third in the ACC and 15th in the NCAA at 2.9. As a team, UNC's assist-turnover ratio of 1.30 is second in the ACC and 17th in the nation.
• Destiny Adams ranks sixth in the ACC in blocks with 1.5 per game. She's averaging 2.0 over the past four outings.
• UNC leads the ACC in turnover margin (6.22).
