North Carolina vs. Pittsburgh
The Tar Heels and Panthers are meeting for the 12th time in a series that dates back to the 1980-81 season. Pitt leads the series 6-5 but UNC has won the past two and four of the past five.
• Last year's meeting took place in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Feb. 14, 2021. The Tar Heels won 81-72 in what was the team's first road win of the season and UNC's first-ever win at Pitt. Kennedy Todd-Williams came off the bench to register a double-double with 12 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
• UNC also won the last meeting in Chapel Hill, 70-62 on Dec. 30, 2019. It was the Tar Heels' conference opener that year and the first-ever ACC game for Carolina coach Courtney Banghart.
Scouting the Panthers
Pitt has been idle for a week since falling 54-39 to Duke at home on Feb. 3.
• The Panthers lead the ACC and rank eighth nationally in rebounding with 45.3 per game. North Carolina is second in the ACC with 44.1 rebounds per game.
• Senior guard Jayla Everett leads Pitt in scoring wit 13.4 points per game. Rita Igbokwe is the team's top rebounder with 7.3 boards per game.
Numbers of Note
• UNC ranks in the top three in the ACC in scoring (3), scoring defense (2), scoring margin (1), rebounds per game (2), offensive rebounds (2), defensive rebounds (2), field goal percentage defense (2), three-point percentage defense (1), steals (2), rebounding margin (3) and turnover margin (1).
• UNC has held all but two opponents this season to sub-40-percent field goal shooting. The only schools to top that have been ACC opponents BC (49.1 percent) and NC State (41.8 in the first meeting, 44.1 in the second). Opponents are shooting .333 and Carolina ranks first in the ACC and fourth in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense.
• The Carolina defense has forced all 22 opponents into double-digit turnovers and has forced 20+ 10 times this season. Opponents are averaging 19.8 turnovers per game vs. UNC.
• Carolina committed a season-low six turnovers in the Jan. 27 game at Duke. It was the team's third single-digit turnover total of the season. UNC is averaging 13.6 turnovers per game, third-lowest in the ACC.
• UNC is 11-0 this season when reaching double digits in steals. The Tar Heels average 10.0 per game, second in the ACC.
• UNC leads the ACC and ranks eighth nationally in three-point percentage defense with opponents shooting 24.7 percent. The Tar Heels have held their last two opponents, Wake Forest and Miami, without a three-point make prior to halftime.
• UNC has its best free throw shooting performance of the season on Sunday, hitting 20 of 21 attempts, 95.2 percent.
• Carolina's seven blocks against Miami marked the team's high in ACC competition, while the team's four steals equaled the lowest of the season. It's just the second time this season (the game at Notre Dame was the other) that UNC has had more blocks than steals in a game.
• Kennedy Todd-Williams set a new career high with 16 points against Miami. It marked the fourth time in seven games that the sophomore guard had either set or equaled a career high in scoring. She has reached double figures in each of the past seven games, the longest stretch of her career, and averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game over that span.
• Alyssa Ustby has had double-doubles in the past two games, marking the first back-to-back doubles of her career. She has nine this season, tied for second in the ACC.
