Tar Heels Set For Selection Sunday
March 12, 2022 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With a 23-6 record and a No. 18 national ranking, the North Carolina women's basketball team is in the comfortable position of being able to watch Sunday's NCAA Tournament Selection Show wondering when, and not if, the Tar Heels will be called.
The team will gather at Top of the Hill restaurant on Franklin Street to watch the show, and fans are invited to join. The show will air live from 8-9 p.m. Sunday on ESPN and ESPN2.
UNC, 23-6 and ranked No. 18 in both the AP and coaches' national polls, is looking to make its second-straight NCAA Tournament trip under third-year coach Courtney Banghart and the 29th in program history. Carolina, the 1994 NCAA Champion, is 47-27 all-time in tournament play.

The Tar Heels have been as high as second this season in the NET rankings, the tool the NCAA uses for selecting and seeding the tournament field, and are currently ranked seventh with two wins over teams ranked in the NET's top 10 (No. 5 Louisville and No. 10 Virginia Tech). The team's six losses this season have come to a total of four teams, three of which are in the NET's top 20 (No. 2 NC State twice, No. 10 Virginia Tech twice, and No. 20 Notre Dame) and one, Georgia Tech, that was No. 24 at game time and is now No. 28 in the NET.
Five of the six losses came away from home, with four in true road games and one in overtime at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
The Tar Heels head into the NCAA Tournament ranked in the Top 15 nationally in scoring margin (7th, 18.3), FG percentage defense (8th, 34.9), rebounds per game (13th, 43.3) and turnover margin (14th, 5.69), and in the top three in the ACC in FG percentage defense (1st), 3FG percentage defense (1st), turnover margin (1st), scoring (2nd), rebounding (2nd), scoring margin (2nd, 18.3), scoring defense (3rd), and steals (3rd).
