Softball Drops 8-5 Game at No. 6 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Carolina softball team proved to be a handful for No. 6 Virginia Tech on Saturday, despite falling 8-5 to the Hokies. Sara Jubas and Taylor Greene each had a home run in the loss, a day after Virginia Tech shutout the Tar Heels 10-0 in five innings.
Senior Hannah George (9-1), took her first loss of the season in the circle, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs with one strikeout in 3.2 innings. Freshman Carlie Myrtle threw 2.1 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
In four at-bats, Jubas had a base hit, drew two walks, was hit by a pitch and plated a team-best two runs.
With the win, the Hokies secured the series win over Carolina.

- Bri Stubbs and Sara Jubas opened the game by drawing back-to-back walks and were plated by a three-run home run from Taylor Greene, her fourth home run of the season, to make it 3-0 after the top of the first
- Virginia Tech drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 3-1
- In the bottom of the second, the Hokies hit a two-run home run to tie it up at 3 all
- Virginia Tech added to its lead in the bottom of the third, plating two runs on three hits and a UNC error to make it 5-3
- The Hokies plated an additional two runs, one in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth, to make it 7-3
- Carolina was able to make it a two-run game in the top of the six off the bat of Jubas, who hit her first home run as a Tar Heel
- Virginia Tech plated the last run of the run in the bottom of the sixth, hitting a solo home run
