Diamond Heels Host Weekend Series With Coastal Carolina

CHAPEL HILL – The No. 24 North Carolina Tar Heels open a three-game series with Coastal Carolina Friday at Boshamer Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Carolina (8-1) welcomes the Chanticleers (7-2) for a weekend series for the first time. It leads the all-time series 44-21, including a 31-13 record at home. UNC is 8-0 at home this season, while Coastal Carolina is 0-1 on the road after losing at UNCW on Wednesday.
The Diamond Heels enter the Coastal Carolina series hitting .306 with a 1.69 ERA, which ranks as the eighth-lowest in the country. UNC has hit 14 home runs which ranks as the 10th most in Division I. Junior Angel Zarate has hit safely in all nine games this season and freshman Vance Honeycutt has swiped 10 consecutive bases to start the season.
Carolina will employ the same rotation as it has each of the first two weekends. Shaddon Peavyhouse, who transferred to UNC from Coastal Carolina over the summer, will face his former teammates on Sunday. Peavyhouse owns a 2.70 ERA and is holding opposing hitters to a .170 batting average. As a staff, the Diamond Heels are holding their opponents to a .201 average.
After losing their first game of the year at East Carolina on Sunday, the Diamond Heels bounced back to post back-to-back victories over Longwood and Winthrop, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 23-4.
