Bacot Named First-Team All-ACC
March 7, 2022 | Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL—University of North Carolina junior forward/center Armando Bacot earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and senior forward Leaky Black was selected to the league's All-Defensive team, the ACC announced on Monday.
Â
Bacot leads the ACC in rebounding, offensive rebounding, field goal percentage and double-doubles and also is Carolina's leading scorer. The Richmond, Va., native received the highest vote total on the All-ACC first team (380 points) and placed second in voting for ACC Player of the Year (31 of 78 votes).
Â
Bacot has tied the UNC single-season record for double-doubles (23), set the school record for double-digit rebound games in a season (24) and leads the league in rebounds in ACC games by more than six per game. His rebound average of 12.5 in all games is the highest by a Tar Heel since 1965, and his average in league play (14.1) was the best since Tim Duncan in 1997.
Â
He is the 52nd Tar Heel to win first-team All-ACC honors a total of 79 times, both of which are the most in ACC history.
Â
Black is the eighth Tar Heel to make the ACC's All-Defensive team and the first since Brice Johnson in 2016. The Concord, N.C., native helped lead the Tar Heels to a 15-5 record and share of second place in the ACC.
Â
Black routinely draws the defensive assignment of the top perimeter scorers in the ACC and held a number of those players below their season scoring averages, including Duke's Paolo Banchero and AJ Griffin, Syracuse's Buddy Boeheim, Georgia Tech's Michael Devoe, NC State's Dereon Seabron and Virginia Tech's Hunter Cattoor.
Â
Black received the third-highest vote total for the All-Defensive team and third-most votes for Defensive Player of the Year.
Â
Caleb Love and Brady Manek were also honorable mention selections to the All-ACC teams.
