Softball Falls to No. 18 Clemson, 12-4

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team fell to No. 18 Clemson 12-4 in the opening game of its three-game series on Friday night. The Tar Heels recorded six hits on the night, two from sophomore Skyler Brooks, but Clemson's Valerie Cagle was able to record 12 strikeouts.
Carolina gave up 13 hits on the night, the second-most hits allowed this season, with the Tigers hitting three home runs, including a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning.
Lilli Backes (6-10) was on the hook for the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs and nine hits with three strikeouts. Carlie Myrtle threw three innings of relief, allowing four runs on four hits.
The Tar Heels will look to bounce back in game two of the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Anderson Stadium.
