MTEN Ready To Open Play At ACC Championship Friday
April 21, 2022 | Men's Tennis
The University of North Carolina men's tennis team will open play at the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Friday in Rome, Ga. The Tar Heels, seeded third in the event after tying for third in the conference in the regular season, will play either 11th-seeded Virginia Tech or sixth-seeded NC State on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
UNC is playing its best tennis of the season, entering the ACC tournament by winning five of its last six matches to finish the regular season.
Carolina will face tough competition in the field, as six ACC teams are included in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation (ITA) top-25 team rankings: No. 6 Virginia, No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 17 UNC, No. 20 NC State, No. 22 Duke and No. 23 Louisville.
The ACC Championship has been held twice previously in Rome, Georgia, in 2017 and 2021. The Tar Heels reached the championship match last year before losing to Virginia in the final.
ACC Network Extra will carry both the men's and women's semifinals and finals on Saturday April 23 and Sunday, April 24, respectively. The men's semifinals are set for 10 a.m., while the women's will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday's title matches begin at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. An ACC women's tennis recap show will air on ACC Network, May 9 at 7 p.m., followed by a men's tennis recap show at 9 p.m.
