Tar Heels Set To Play In USA Basketball 3X Nationals

Four Tar Heels will take the court in May to compete at the 2022 Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals, held at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. The event, which runs May 13-15, will feature up to 16 men's and 16 women's teams, vying for national titles.
An all-sophomore lineup of Deja Kelly, Kennedy Todd-Williams, Alyssa Ustby and Alexandra Zelaya will represent UNC. The Tar Heels earned an invitation to compete based their finish in the 2022 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
"It's so exciting that our team's success this past season has earned our program an opportunity to compete in the National 3-v-3 competition," UNC coach Courtney Banghart said. "Alyssa, Toddy, Deja, and Z will represent the Tar Heels and they will do it well. They are eager to compete alongside some of the best collegiate players in the country, while being back in the Caroline blue uniform together."
The 3X Nationals will tip off May 13 with preliminary round games. Teams will be seeded based on preliminary records before entering bracket play. Games will be played on the Hall of Fame's Jerry Colangelo Court of Dreams, located in the heart of the museum. The event is open to the public with purchase of admission to the Hall of Fame. The full schedule will be announced at a later date.
The event will serve as the final evaluation of athletes for selection to various 2022 USA Basketball 3x3 men's and women's national teams, including the 2022 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, set for June 21-26 in Antwerp, Belgium.
Played on a half court with a 10-minute clock and a 12-second shot clock, the first team to 21 points, or the team in the lead at the end of regulation, is the winner. Participating teams earned their spots in the 2022 Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals either through Red Bull USA Basketball 3X regional qualifying tournaments last fall or via an at-large invitation from USA Basketball.
