Shortly after finishing spring semester exams, two members of the UNC women's basketball team kicked off the summer with study abroad experiences through the Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Eva Hodgson, who just finished her first year in UNC's MBA program, and Malu Tshitenge, a rising senior in the undergraduate business program, are currently in Europe with North Carolina classmates and professors, expanding the boundaries of their Carolina experience.
"UNC is a global brand that has such a wide reach in both the athletic and academic world," North Carolina coach Courtney Banghart said. "I'm so proud that both Eva and Malu are taking full advantage of all that this place offers. They played in a Sweet 16 in March and six weeks later, they left for Greece and London on University-sponsored trips."
Hodgson, a guard from Rindge, N.H., traveled to Greece as part of a Strategy and General Management program. The group met for four classes in Chapel Hill before taking off for Europe on May 8. The program spans eight days in Greece with visits to various local businesses.
Tshitenge, a forward from Germantown, Md., traveled to London with a undergraduate group that, like its MBA counterpart, also met for class sessions in Chapel Hill during the spring semester. Students visit London businesses with a particular focus on the financial ramifications of Brexit. The itinerary also includes a trip to Oxford and a service-learning project.
Both programs are Global Immersion Electives at Kenan-Flagler and are among a variety of opportunities for UNC students to study abroad.
"When recruiting our exceptional student-athletes, I urge them to think limitlessly about their experience here and this is another example of them doing just that," Banghart said.
