Serretti's Grand Slam Seals Series Win Over FSU
May 20, 2022 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL – Danny Serretti hit a grand slam, Alberto Osuna homered for the third time in two games and North Carolina knocked off No. 20 Florida State, 10-4, on Friday night at Boshamer Stadium, giving the Tar Heels their first series triumph over the Seminoles since 2017.
The Heels (33-19, 14-15 ACC) defeated the Seminoles (32-21, 15-14) in Thursday's series opener, 7-5, as Osuna hit a three-run walk-off home run.
Carolina has won 10 of its last 12 games and six of its last eight ACC games, posting series wins over NC State, Wake Forest, and FSU.
Walks to Colby Wilkerson and Mac Horvath along with a one-out single by Angel Zarate in the eighth inning loaded the bases for Serretti, who hit his only previous grand slam as a freshman against Boston College in 2019.
After allowing two runs in the first inning, Carolina starting pitcher Brandon Schaeffer (6-2) put up zeroes in the next five innings before Brock Mathis homered in the seventh to make it a one-run game, 4-3.
The Heels scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and FSU added another run in the eighth before the duo of Shawn Rapp and Davis Palermo combined to hold the Seminoles hitless in the final two innings.
Zarate collected three hits, while Serretti and Madej had two hits each. Vance Honeycutt went 1-for4 with a home run, two RBIs and a stolen.
Florida State starter Parker Messick (6-4) was tagged with loss after surrendering three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings with four strikeouts
