Softball Drops Series Opener At Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Carolina softball team dropped the first game of its three-game series at Syracuse on Friday afternoon. Despite out-hitting the Orange 5-4, the Tar Heels left 10 on-base in the loss.
Destiny Middleton went a team-best 2-of-4 at the plate with a stolen base. Kiannah Jones had the team's sole RBI of the day off a sac fly that helped score Middleton in the fourth inning.
Hannah George (10-9) took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs, all off two Syracuse home runs, and four hits.
Despite the loss, graduate Sara Jubas recorded her 250th career hit in the top of the fifth. She tallied 202 hits in her four years at James Madison and currently has a team-best 48 hits this season for Carolina.
The Tar Heels (23-26, 6-16 ACC) will look to even the series with the Orange (23-20, 5-15 ACC) tomorrow at 1 p.m. With one victory in the next two games against Syracuse, Carolina will secure a spot in the ACC Tournament.
