Softball Drops Game Two To Syracuse, 6-2

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Carolina softball team dropped the second game of its three-game series with Syracuse on Saturday afternoon, 6-2.
The Tar Heels (23-27, 6-17 ACC) had five hits on the day, highlighted by a team-best two from Bri Stubbs, who also plated a run and tallied an RBI.
Lilli Backes (8-4) took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs, two hits and a walk in an inning and a third of work. Carlie Myrtle and Talia Hannappel combined to pitch the final four and a two-third innings.
The Orange (24-20, 6-15 ACC) got scoring started in the second, plating four runs on three hits, including a two-run home run, to go up 4-0. Syracuse added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, making it 5-0.
UNC was able to plate two runs in the top of the sixth, with back-to-back-to-back hits from Kiersten Licea, Bri Stubbs and Sara Jubas, cutting into the lead to 5-2.
With the loss, the Tar Heels have set up a vital game three on Sunday with the Orange. Whoever wins Sunday's 12 p.m. game will advance to the ACC Tournament in Pittsburgh, with the loser's season coming to an end.
