First Half Goals Carry Women’s Soccer Past Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The top-ranked North Carolina women's soccer team scored three first-half goals for the second straight game and earned a 3-1 road win at Missouri on Thursday.
Avery Patterson, who scored in each of the previous two matches, scored in the sixth minute to stake North Carolina (5-0) to an early lead. It was Patterson's fifth goal of the season, equaling her season total from a year ago.
Freshman Tori Dellaperuta scored in the 19th minute for a two-goal lead on an assist by Emily Colton and Bella Sember netted her first goal of the season in the 38th minute to put the Tar Heels up 3-0. Isabel Cox added her second assist of the year on the play.
Kylie Simmons scored in the 60th minute for Missouri (2-2-1), ending the Tar Heels' consecutive shutout streak at four games.
The Tar Heels put nine of their 11 shots on target and held the Tigers to nine total shots. Emmie Allen made three first-half saves for Carolina. Becca Hollenbach saved six for Missouri.
UNC returns to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 4, against No. 3 UCLA at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill. The match is slated for a 12 noon start and will be televised on the ACC Network.
