September 15, 2022 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina baseball team will take to the field Friday, Sept. 16, at Boshamer Stadium, as the Diamond Heels host Walters State at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
While admission is free, there will be no concessions available at the games, but fans are welcome to bring in their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Free parking is available in the Navy Lot, Stadium Drive and Erhinghaus after 5 p.m. Guests may also utilize the Rams Head Parking Deck at an hourly rate until the aforementioned lots are opened at the end of the business day.
A live audio stream will be available on GoHeels.com.
The Diamond Heels' roster contains more newcomers (19) than returning lettermen (16), including 13 freshmen. UNC features the return of starting infielders Johnny Castagnozzi, Mac Horvath, Hunter Stokely and Colby Wilkerson along with catcher Tomas Frick, centerfielder Vance Honeycutt and designated hitter Alberto Osuna.
Osuna spent two seasons at Walters State before transferring to UNC as did senior catcher Max Riemer and right-handed pitcher Jake Knapp, who joined the Diamond Heels over the summer.
Carolina also welcomes back pitchers Connor Bovair, Max Carlson, Nik Pry and Will Sandy along with five other hurlers who sat out last season.
UNC finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 42-22 that included the ACC Baseball Championship and NCAA Chapel Hill Regional title.
Friday's game is the first of two exhibition dates this fall. Carolina will host Duke at Boshamer Stadium on October 14 after playing its annual Fall World Series, Oct. 3-6. All games during the fall season are open to the public.
