September 24, 2022 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After a grueling 1-0 win at Syracuse on Thursday night, third-ranked North Carolina returns home Sunday to take on Boston College at 1 p.m. on Dorrance Field.
The game will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra with Matt Krause and former Carolina All-America forward Brianna Pinto on the call.
Carolina enters the match with a 1-1 ACC record, while Boston College is 0-2 following losses to Florida State and Duke.
The Tar Heels bounced back from a disappointing loss to Virginia in their ACC opener with a road win in central New York. Freshman Tori Dellaperuta scored the lone goal of the match in the 32nd minute as her shot glanced off a Syracuse defender into the back of the net.
Carolina owned 57 percent of the possession and out-shot the Orange, 19-7, while allowing just three shots on goal.
UNC posted its eighth straight win over Syracuse and will look to extend an even longer winning streak against Boston College on Sunday.
The Tar Heels have won 10 straight against the Eagles, including a 2-1 come-from-behind overtime victory in Chestnut Hill, Mass., last season.
Julia Dorsey tied the game with 2:09 to play in regulation and Maggie Pierce scored her first career goal with 2:32 remaining in the first overtime to give UNC the win.
Game-Winning Goals | Freshman Tori Dellaperuta is tied for second on the team with four goals scored, half of which were game-winners. Her goals against Missouri and Syracuse stood up as game-winners, placing her second on the squad behind Avery Patterson's three game-winning goals.
Fresh Linens | North Carolina recorded its sixth clean sheet victory of the season Thursday night and is fourth in eight all-time meetings with Syracuse. Emmie Allen has two solo shutouts in her four starts this year, while combining with Marz Josephson for the other four. Last season, UNC posted seven shutouts – all solo efforts by Claudia Dickey.
Full 90 | Senior defenders Julia Dorsey and Tori Hansen have both played the full 90 minutes each of the last four games with fellow senior midfielder, turned defender, Emily Moxley having played 90 minutes in three of those games and 84 in the other. Hansen has gone the distance in nine matches this season and has played 94.2 percent of the minutes this season.
The Series | UNC leads the all-time series with Boston College, 21-1 with their lone loss coming at home in 2010 (2-3). The Tar Heels have Eagles are meeting for the fifth consecutive season on Sunday, but it's the first match in Chapel Hill since 2018. UNC has outscored BC 18-2 in the last 10 meetings with eight shutouts. Thirteen of the Tar Heels' 21 wins in the series have been clean sheet victories.
