No. 15 Tar Heels Face Pitt Thursday In ACC WBB Road Game

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The North Carolina women's basketball team looks for its sixth Atlantic Coast Conference win and its third true victory of the season on Thursday evening when the Tar Heels take on Pitt at the Panthers' Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is 6 p.m. and the game will air on ACCNX.

The No. 15 Tar Heels are 14-5 overall and 5-3 in ACC play after winning their last five games in a row, the longest conference winning streak under fourth-year coach Courtney Banghart.
The Panthers are 7-12 and 0-8 in ACC competition.
The series is tied at 6-6 with Carolina winning the last three matchups and five of the past six. In UNC's most recent game in Pittsburgh, on Feb. 14, 2021, the Tar Heels won 81-72 to earn the team's first road win of the season and first-ever win at Pitt.
After three straight home games, Thursday's matchup with the Panthers is the first of two on the road for Carolina. Next up for UNC is a game at Clemson on Sunday.
Noting the Tar Heels
• Three Tar Heels rank in the conference's top 10 in scoring: Deja Kelly is fifth with 16.2 ppg, Kennedy Todd-Williams is ninth at 13.84, and Alyssa Ustby is 10th at 13.78. No other school has more than two scorers in the top 20.
• Alyssa Ustby was recognized as the USBWA National Player of the Week based on her play against Duke and Georgia Tech.
• The win over Georgia Tech was UNC's 400th ACC victory in program history.
• UNC is coming off its two best shooting percentages in ACC play. The Tar Heels shot .489 vs Duke (1/19) and .474 vs Georgia Tech (1/22) for a combined .480 (49-102) over the past two games.
• The Tar Heels shot .444 from three-point range against Georgia Tech, a high in ACC play.
• Six Tar Heels have led the team in scoring or tied for the lead in at least one game this season. Most recently, freshman Paulina Paris came off the bench to lead UNC with 16 points in the win over No. 4 Notre Dame.
• Alyssa Ustby ranks in the ACC's top 15 in scoring (10th), rebounding (5th), field goal percentage (3rd), blocks (9th) and steals (14th).
• Eva Hodgson hasn't missed a free throw since the Iowa State game in Portland in November. She's 17-17 since then including 4-4 shooting against Duke.
• UNC's 10 blocks against Iowa State were the most for a Tar Heel team since the 2017-18 season. The Tar Heels had six against Georgia Tech in their most recent outing and are averaging 4.79 per game, fourth in the ACC and 25th nationally.
• In an average of 16.6 minutes on the court per game, Destiny Adams is 10th in the ACC in blocks with 1.2 per game and 23rd in steals (1.4 per game).
• Two Tar Heels are in the top six in the ACC in assist/turnover ratio. Deja Kelly is fourth at 1.9 and Eva Hodgson is sixth at 1.8. UNC's team assist-turnover ratio of 1.05 is fourth in the ACC.
• UNC finished nonconference play shooting .658 from the foul line but has improved considerably in conference play, with the Georgia Tech game the exception. The Tar Heels are shooting .736 over their eight conference games with only two (Miami at .615 and Georgia Tech at .535) below .700. For the season, UNC is shooting .686, 13th in the league. Carolina's ACC-only average ranks ninth. (The Tar Heels were fifth before the Georgia Tech game.)
