October 17, 2023 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, NC --Â The Navy squad scored three runs in the top of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie and defeat Blue in a five 1/2-inning scrimmage on a cool, cloudy Tuesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
Navy scored a run in the top of the first when Reece Holbrook scored on a throwing error. Navy picked up another run in the top of the second on Patrick Alvarez's solo homer to left. Blue got that run back in the bottom of the frame on Luke Stevenson's RBI-single to right that cut Navy's lead to 2-1.
Blue took a 3-2 lead with their two-run bottom of the third. Casey Cook drove in a run with a double to right center before Parks Harber plated a run with an infield single. Navy tied the score at 3-3 on a Parker Haskin single to right in the fourth. Navy's three runs in the sixth came on Parker Haskin's bases-loaded walk and Colby Wilkeron's two-run single to right.
Haskin paced Navy's attack by going 2-2 at the plate with two RBI. The only other players with multiple base hits were Blue's Alex Madera, 2-3 with one run scored and Alberto Osuna, who was 2-2. Alvarez had the only homer while Madera, Cook and Osuna each had a double.
Seven pitchers saw action: Cameron Padgett, Connor Hegan and Ryan Hench threw for Navy. Kyle Percival, Will Simmons, Hugh Collins and Michael Colonna pitched for Blue. Hench and Collins were the only pitchers who did not give up a run as each retired the side in order in their one-inning stents.
