Ustby Named To Cheryl Miller Award Watch List
October 18, 2023 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –UNC's Alyssa Ustby has been named to the 20-player Watch List for the Cheryl Miller Award as the nation's top small forward, as announced on Wednesday by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
It's the second year in a row that Ustby, a senior from Rochester, Minn., has been included on the watch list. She's one of just two Atlantic Coast Conference players included this year.
A first-team All-ACC pick and WBCA honorable mention All-America honoree as a junior, Ustby led the Tar Heels in rebounding last season with 8.3 per game. She was the only player in the conference to rank in the top 10 in field goal percentage (third, .506), rebounding (fourth, 8.3), blocks (ninth, 1.1) and steals (10th, 1.9).
Part of the 3x3 National Team pool, she represented the U.S. internationally in 2022. She has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team in each of the past three seasons.
Along with classmate Deja Kelly, who on Monday was named to the Point Guard of the Year watch list, Ustby is captain for the 2023-24 season, which the Tar Heels will open on Nov. 8 at home against Gardner-Webb.
The 20-player watch list for the Cheryl Miller Award, which was selected by a national committee, will be trimmed to 10 in January and then to five in February. The winner will be announced in March.
Fan voting for the award opens on Friday. For the full list of the honorees, click here.
