Men's Soccer Falls To Syracuse Friday Night, 1-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Buster Sjoberg's goal in the 23rd minute was the difference maker, as the No. 18-ranked Syracuse Orange (6-2-3, 2-1-2) defeated the No. 18 North Carolina men's soccer program (5-1-4, 1-1-3) in Atlantic Coast Conference action Friday night.
How It Happened
• In the fourth minute, Syracuse's Jeorgio Kocevski struck from just inside the box, but Tar Heel goalkeeper Andrew Cordes made the save in the bottom left corner.
• Syracuse scored the contest's lone goal midway through the opening half, as Sjoberg was fed off a corner from Kocevski, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.
• To begin the second half in the 50th minute, Matt Edwards' strike from outside the box was stopped by the Syracuse keeper.
• Syracuse's Nicholas Kaloukian forced a shot on goal in the 73rd minute, however Cordes was there to make the save.
• Cordes made his third save in the 84th minute, as Lorenzo Boselli's created an attempt from just inside the box.
• Just moments later, Martin Vician and Quenzi Huerman posted back-to-back shots on goal, however Syracuse's Jahiem Wickham halted the tries.
• Carolina continued to force pressure, as Sam Williams strike from straight away was denied by the Orange in the 88th frame.
