Thomas, Zubich Sign Letters Of Intent With UNC WBB

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two new Tar Heels signed women's basketball letters of intent on Wednesday, making an already deep roster even stronger. Blanca Thomas and Jordan Zubich will arrive in Chapel Hill next summer and join the team for the 2024-25 season.
Â
"At the University of North Carolina, we want the most talented student-athletes who can make an immediate impact and whose best basketball is still ahead of them," UNC coach Courtney Banghart said. "We recruit great teammates and great people. We want people that want to wear the Carolina uniform and to help us do something special together.
Â
"As a staff, we aim for players that fit our programmatic needs at the right time. Blanca and Jordan are a homerun for all the right reasons. I clearly want to recognize my current players who have attracted such high-quality players, people, and families, and we all can't wait to have both Blanca and Jordan here."
Â
Thomas is from Charlotte, N.C., and attends Charlotte Catholic High School. A 6-5 post, she has led her team to the state's final four in each of the past two seasons after reaching the state quarterfinals in 2021. She was a first-team All-State pick as a junior after earning second-team honors in her freshman and sophomore years. The Charlotte Observer named her its Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
Â
She plays club ball for the CP3 Flames, leading the team in rebounds and blocks and reaching the 2023 EYBL Sweet 16.
Â
"The team and coaches treated me like family from the first time I stepped foot into Carmichael and I knew it was the place for me," Thomas said.
Â
Zubich is from Mountain Iron, Minn., and attends Mountain Iron-Buhl High School. A 5-11 shooting guard, she helped her team to a state championship in 2023 and has earned all-state honors in each of the past two seasons. A two-year team captain, she has already scored more than 2,000 points in her high school career.
Â
She plays for Minnesota Fury, the same club for which current UNC senior Alyssa Ustby played, and has earned All-Under Armour first team honors.
Â
"I chose UNC for the family atmosphere, amazing coaching staff, and the feeling I had when I was on campus," said Zubich, whose middle is Carolina. "It just felt like home."
