• Carolina is 101-12 overall in season openers and has won 18 in a row (last loss in a season opener was against Santa Clara in Oakland in 2004-05).
• Last year, the Tar Heels defeated UNCW, 69-56, in the season and home opener (last loss in a home opener was 2001-02 against Hampton).
• This is the 39th season the Tar Heels are playing in the Smith Center. Carolina is 463-86 all-time in the arena, including 223-18 against non-ACC opponents.

• Last season was the first UNC was not invited to play in the NCAA Tournament when winning 20 or more games and having a winning record in ACC play since 1973-74, when the Tar Heels finished 22-6 overall, 9-3 in the ACC. Only one team per conference was permitted to play in the NCAA Tournament in 1974.
• Hubert Davis became the third UNC head coach to win 20 or more games in his first two seasons with Ben Carnevale (1945-46) and Bill Guthridge (1998-99). • Armando Bacot earned first-team All-ACC honors for the second straight season, the first Tar Heel to repeat as All-ACC since Tyler Hansbrough accomplished that from 2006-09.
• Bacot and guard RJ Davis were UNC's co-Most Valuable Players. For Bacot, it was his third consecutive season winning at least a share of the award. Only Lennie Rosenbluth, Billy Cunningham and Hansbrough also won MVP honors three times.
