November 6, 2023 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Last year's national runner-up, the University of North Carolina has secured a No. 3 in the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament as it begins its quest for the 23rd national championship in program history.
The Tar Heels will host Towson in the first round in Chapel Hill on Friday, Nov. 10. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET at Dorrance Field and tickets will be available for purchase here beginning at 6 p.m. on Nov. 7.
The winner of Friday's match will advance to the second round the following weekend to face the winner of Alabama-Western Carolina.
North Carolina earned the No. 3 seed in its quadrant after a 10-1-8 record, including a 5-0-5 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Tar Heels are currently ranked 13th in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll as well as in the NCAA's RPI.
This marks the 42nd straight NCAA Tournament appearance for Carolina, which is the only team to appear in every tournament dating back to the inaugural one in 1982. UNC has won 21 of 41 NCAA women's soccer titles, also winning the AIAW national championship in 1981. No other program has more than three NCAA crowns.
All under head coach Anson Dorrance, the Tar Heels last won the national title in 2012. Carolina has advanced to the College Cup 31 times – 18 more appearances than the next closest school – and has finished as the national runner-up on six occasions.
