February 14, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Following a win in the season opener, the top-ranked University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 15, when it plays host to Liberty. First draw is set for 5 p.m. ET at Dorrance Field.
The game will be aired on ACCNX and tickets are available for purchase here.
The unanimous preseason favorite, the Tar Heels hold on to the No. 1 spot following a 14-9 win over No. 12 James Madison on Saturday to begin the 2023 campaign. Reilly Casey led the team with six points from three goals and three assists, the first hat trick of the junior's career and nearly matching the nine points she accumulated during the entire 2022 season.
Marissa White impressed in her debut as the freshman became the first UNC rookie to record at least five goals in one contest since 2021. Alecia Nicholas, making her first career start, had 14 saves for a .601 save percentage between the pipes.
Caitlyn Wurzburger tallied three assists against the Dukes, moving up to be tied for 10th all-time in program history for career assists at 62. Entering Wednesday's matchup with Liberty, she's one assist away from being tied for ninth and two away from being tied for eighth.
Following Saturday's win, the Tar Heels have now won 41 consecutive regular season games, tied as the third-longest streak in NCAA history. Carolina has also won 34 consecutive home games, the longest streak in program history.
This will be the third meeting in program history between the Tar Heels and the Flames, the last time being a 23-4 UNC victory in 2018. Wednesday will be the season opener for Liberty, which reached the championship of the ASUN Tournament last year.
