CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team has been crowned the 2023 East Atlantic Gymnastics League regular season champion for the second year in a row, as announced by the conference Tuesday morning.
The Tar Heels clinched the title by virtue of having the highest winning percentage in the league. The only undefeated team in the EAGL, Carolina currently sits at 5-0 in league competition with only one conference meet remaining.
"Earning back-to-back regular season conference championships is an incredible accomplishment for our program," said head coach Danna Durante. "This was an important goal set by the team in the fall and it's thrilling to see their consistent hard work, commitment, and discipline pay off. We are excited to celebrate with our fans at home on Feb. 24 and look forward to the remaining objectives in front of us as we continue our 2023 journey."
This marks the fourth year the EAGL has named a regular season champion, as all eight league schools participate in designated conference meets that count towards the regular season each year.
UNC also earned the regular season title in 2022 after posting a perfect 7-0 record during Durante's first year in Chapel Hill.
