February 24, 2023 | Women's Basketball, Academics
UNC junior Alyssa Ustby has earned Academic All-District women's basketball recognition, as announced this week by the College Sports Communicators. The award recognizes outstanding performance both athletically and academically.
Â
Ustby, from Rochester, Minn., is majoring in communication studies with a minor in business administration and was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2022 semester.
Â
On the court, she ranks among the Atlantic Coast Conference leaders in field goal percentage (.518), rebounding (8.8, 4th), blocks (1.3, 9th), steals (1.9, 10th) and scoring (13.4, 13th). Earlier this season she was named a top-10 finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award, which goes to the nation's top small forward, and was honored as USBWA National Player of the Week. She's also part of the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team and was named to the Phil Knight Invitational All-Tournament team.
Â
Nominees are required to have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 in addition to their strong basketball resume and must be sophomores, juniors or seniors.
Â
As an All-District selection, Ustby is now in the running for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in March.
Â
She's one of just 10 Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball players to earn the honor. To see the full list of honorees, click here.
