Balanced Effort Leads No. 18 Men's Lacrosse Over Brown

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Nine different goal scorers, including three with hat tricks, lifted No. 18 North Carolina (4-2) over Brown (3-2), 19-6, Saturday in a non-conference matchup at Dorrance Field.
How It Happened
- Quintin O'Connell netted his first of the season to begin scoring five minutes into the game, sparking a 4-1 run for the Tar Heels.
- Lance Tillman got his second of the quarter to put UNC – which outshot Brown 17-8 – up 5-2 at the end of the first.
- Carolina exploded during the second frame, tallying five goals from four different scorers which included a pair from Harry Wellford.
- Sean Goldsmith and Logan McGovern both had one goal and one assist during the second quarter, giving the home team a 10-2 lead at the break.
- Behind three saves from Collin Krieg during the second quarter, UNC's defense kept its opponent without a goal, the fourth time the Tar Heels have done so in a quarter this season.
- Brown began to chip away at its deficit with back-to-back goals to start the second half, but UNC ended the third quarter on a 4-0 run.
- James Matan had the first hat trick of his career with 2:14 remaining in the third to put Carolina up 14-4 after 45 minutes.
- Andrew Tyeryar also tallied three goals for the first hatty of his career, which came less than five minutes in the final quarter.
- Tillman's third goal with just over seven left in the game gave him his second hat trick of the year and sixth of his career.
Tar Heel Performances
- Matan and Tyeryar both recorded the first hat tricks of their career, while Tillman had the sixth of his.
- O'Connell saw the first multi-goal games of his career with two goals.
- Krieg finished with nine saves between the pipes for a .600 save percentage.
Inside the Numbers
- Saturday was the second time this season where three Tar Heels recorded a hat trick, the first which came at Syracuse on Feb. 25.
- Goldsmith extended his point streak to 13-straight contests, including 47 of 48 games during his collegiate career.
- This marked the 31st game in McGovern's collegiate career scoring a goal and his 15th multi-goal game.
- In a series dating back to 1985, Carolina remains undefeated all-time against Brown and extends its streak to 6-0.
