CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore Vance Honeycutt hit a grand slam, graduate transfer Kevin Eaise pitched 6.2 strong innings and No. 18 North Carolina used a seven-run second to take down Charlotte 16-3 on Tuesday night at Robert and Miriam Hayes Stadium.

UNC (13-5) posted a season-high 17 hits, while scoring a season-best 16 runs. Tomas Frick and Colby Wilkerson each collected three hits and Honeycutt drove in five, matching his career-high total for RBIs. Mac Horvath drove in three runs, while Frick and Alberto Osuna had two RBIs apiece.

The Tar Heels sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning. Three of the first four batters reached to bring up Honeycutt, who smashed the first grand slam of his career, to open the scoring and Alberto Osuna finished it by crushing a 403-foot two-run homer.

Mac Horvath belted a three-run homer in the third and Tomas Frick smacked a two-run double in seventh.

UNC also scored a single run in the sixth before plating two more in the eighth on pair of bases loaded walks. Reece Holbrook drove in the final run in the ninth.

After giving up back-to-back home runs in the first, Eaise retired six in a row and then 13 of the next 16 before exiting after 98 pitches.
