CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—University of North Carolina senior forward Armando Bacot will return to play a fifth season for the Tar Heels in 2023-24, he announced on Wednesday.
Bacot has a fifth year of eligibility available to him due to the NCAA's COVID-19 pandemic season waiver.
Bacot is UNC's career leader in rebounds, double-doubles and double-figure rebounding games. He earned third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press, Sporting News and USBWA this season and also was a third-team pick in 2021-22.
He was the only Atlantic Coast Conference player on the first-, second- or third-team AP or USBWA All-America teams in 2022-23. He also was a first-team All-ACC pick in each of the last two seasons.
Bacot ranks 14th at UNC in scoring with 1,809 points and has joined College Basketball Hall of Famer Sam Perkins as the only Tar Heels with 1,800 points, 1,000 rebounds and 150 blocks.
