No. 3 Women’s Lacrosse Tops No. 22 Clemson, 17-8

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the No. 22 University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team ran away with a 17-8 victory over No. 22 Clemson on Sunday afternoon at Dorrance Field.
Following the win, the Tar Heels improve to 9-1 on the year and remain undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference action at 5-0. The Tigers drop to 9-4 overall and 1-4 in league play.

The Tar Heels head to South Bend, Indiana, for a matchup at No. 11 Notre Dame on Saturday, April 1. First draw is set for noon ET at Arlotta Family Stadium.

How It Happened
- Marissa White had a hat trick – the third of her career – and Caitlyn Wurzburger tallied two as the pair scored all of UNC's goals to lead 5-2 in the first quarter.
- Back-to-back goals from Mackenzie Rich prompted a 4-0 run for the Tar Heels, who only allowed one Tiger goal during the second quarter to maintain a 9-3 edge at the break.
- Carolina out-scored Clemson 4-1 in the third stanza, holding a 13-4 advantage after 45 minutes of play.
- White matched her career-high five goals 90 seconds into the fourth before Wurzburger got her fifth hat trick of the year less than two minutes later.
- The fourth quarter saw four goals from both teams, including two from Kiley Mottice, as UNC ended with a 17-8 win.
- Wurzburger led all scorers with six points, followed by White with five.
- Carolina out-shot Clemson 28-23 (24-15 on goal), including 17-9 (13-6) in the first half.
- The Tar Heels had 16 draw controls to the Tigers' 12, and had 10 to their three in the opening half. Sophie Student had a game-high eight.
- Alecia Nicholas made seven saves between the pipes.
- North Carolina has kept its opponent to under 10 goals in eight of its 10 games, allowing just 7.50 goals per game.
- With three assists today, Reilly Casey now has 27 on the year, which ranks 15th all-time in UNC history for single-season assists.
- Also dishing out three assists was Wurzburger, who is now three away from being tied for seventh all-time in UNC history for career assists (77).
- Wurzburger and White have both scored at least one goal in every contest so far this year. Wurzburger has 26 multi-goal games in her career.
- The Tar Heels have now won 40 consecutive home games.
- UNC has scored double-figure goals for 66 times in its last 69 games.
- Carolina has won 58 of its last 60 games, and 66 of its last 69.
- Dating back to Feb. 12, 2022, Carolina is 21-1 against ranked teams.
