Men & Women Fencers Both Ranked 12th In Final Coaches Poll

CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina men's and women's fencing teams have both been ranked No. 12 in the US Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) End of Season Poll.Â

The Carolina women's fencing team has been ranked in all three of the polls that the USFCA has released this season. They started the year ranked No. 14 in the USFCA Pre-Season Poll, and remained at the No. 14 spot mid-season. Thanks to quality wins over Boston College, Long Island, and Air Force, the Tar Heels were bumped up to No. 12 for the USFCA End of Season Poll.Â
ÂTheir appearance in the USFCA End of Season Coaches Poll is the first time the Carolina men's team has been ranked this season. After finishing the 2021/22 season ranked No. 11, the men dropped out of the rankings to begin the 2022/23 season. After posting some impressive wins to start 2023, including defeating No. 3 Ohio State and No. 5 Penn State, the Tar Heels just missed out on being included in the USFCA Mid-Season Poll. Late season wins over LIU and Boston College push the Tar Heels just over the edge and into the No. 12 spot.Â
ÂThe No. 12 North Carolina fencing team will return to action this weekend at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional hosted by Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.
