Baseball Opens Nine-Game Homestand Against Queens

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Following a seven-game road swing through three states, the Diamond Heels open a nine-game homestand beginning Tuesday, April 11, against Queens University of Charlotte at 6 p.m. The contest precedes a return to Atlantic Coast Conference play later this week with a three-game series against Miami beginning Thursday.
The homestand continues with a midweek game against Charlotte (April 18) followed by a three-game series with No. 11 Boston College (April 21-23) and a midweek contest versus UNCW (April 25).
North Carolina (22-10) is coming off a 2-1 series win over ACC Coastal Division foe Georgia Tech, while Queens (6-25) was swept by No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast.
Jackson Van De Brake (1.108), Mac Horvath (1.094) and Tomas Frick (1.008) each have an OPS over 1.000. Frick (36) and Horvath (34) rank one and two on the team in RBIs, while Frick leads the team in total hits (39) and doubles (14).
Horvath leads the Tar Heels in home runs (13) and runs scored (38).
Queens, which is in the first year of its four-year transitional period into Division I, is led by Riley Cheek with a .352 batting average and 1.059 OPS. He also leads the Royals in home runs (6) and RBIs (21).
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Tar Heels and Royals.

The Tar Heels also came in at No. 13 in the latest Baseball America, NCBWA and USA Today Coaches polls along with being ranked 14th in Collegiate Baseball. The highest ranking of the week was bestowed upon the Tar Heels by Perfect Game, tabbing them at No. 11.
MIDWEEK MATCHUPS

The Tar Heels enter play on Tuesday ranked third in the ACC in home runs (57) and home runs per game (1.78). Horvath is second in the conference with 13 home runs, and Vance Honeycutt is 10th with nine.

In addition to being among the premier power hitters in the ACC, Horvath and Honeycutt are among the conference's top base stealers. The duo is tied for second in the league with 15 stolen bases each.
CASEY ON THE BASE
Casey Cook has been a constant on the base paths for the Tar Heels. Cook comes into Tuesday night having reached base safely in 21 games. He is one of five Tar Heels to have a hitting streak of eight or more games this season. He's gotten a hit in 24 games and hasn't gone consecutive games without getting a hit.
