Late Push Guides No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse Over ECU, 12-9

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter allowed the No. 5 University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team to hang on for a 12-9 win over East Carolina in Tuesday afternoon's nonconference finale in Greenville.
Following the win, the Tar Heels improve to 11-2 (6-1 ACC) while the Pirates drop to 10-4 (3-0 AAC).
How It Happened
Returning to Chapel Hill for a big Atlantic Coast Conference showdown, fifth-ranked North Carolina is set to take on No. 1 Syracuse at noon ET on Saturday, April 15. The game will be aired nationally on ESPNU and tickets are available here.

How It Happened
- After falling behind by three, Nicole Humphrey's goal with four seconds left in the first quarter sparked a 4-0 run, which included another from Humphrey and two from Caitlyn Wurzburger.
- A goal from Kaleigh Harden in the final minute of the opening half gave North Carolina a slight 5-4 lead at the break.
- In what proved to be a defensive battle, Marissa White scored UNC's lone goal in the third quarter as the Tar Heels and Pirates were locked at six apiece.
- Trailing 8-6 two minutes into the final frame, Lauren Figura found the back of the cage for the first of six unanswered goals for the Tar Heels.
- Back-to-back tallies from Humphrey marked a career-high four, while Darcy Felter gave UNC its largest lead of the day at 12-8 as the Tar Heels hung on for the win.
- Humphrey's career-high four goals, which matched her career-high four points, led all scorers.
- North Carolina out-shot East Carolina 31-25 and 22-16 on shots on goal.
- The Tar Heels had six caused turnovers to the Pirates' two.
- UNC also held a 13-8 advantage in ground balls, led by Emily Nalls with a season-high three.
- Alecia Nicholas made six saves between the pipes.
- Humphrey's four goals marked a career-high for the senior.
- White, a freshman, is the lone Tar Heel to score in every contest this season.
- With one today, Caitlyn Wurzburger ranks sixth all-time in UNC history with 82 career assists.
- Wurzburger, who netted a pair of goals, is two away from 100 in her career.
